Bang Bang

Prescribed Text School Production

The National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) is proud to announce the staging of the production ‘Bang Bang’, written by Chris Djuma (RSA) and directed by local theatre-maker Veronique Kuchekana-Chirau. The production will run at the NTN Auditorium from 8–10 April, with two performances per day at 09h00 and 11H00.

Prescribed by the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture for Grade 8 learners studying English as a Second Language, ‘Bang Bang’ is a short, hard-hitting play set in a neighbourhood marked by poverty, crime, and violence. The story centres on children who play games involving toy guns, mimicking the violent world they see around them. What begins as innocent play gradually reveals how violence has become normalised in their daily lives.

Performed in English, the play is minimal in structure yet impactful in implication, using voices to expose the psychological and social damage caused by a violent environment.

With musical direction by Nyasha Kuchekana-Chirau and stage direction by Fellemon Ndongo, the stellar cast for this production includes Sandile Mark, Lekenanda Eliakim, Otja Kooper, Albertina Musilika, Uajorokisa Culenda, Naledi Nakuta, Georgina Namises, Michael Nakale, and Brandon de Wet.

The Prescribed Text Project forms part of the NTN’s Main Programme, which stages dramatic texts from the school curriculum to give learners the opportunity to experience literature live on stage. This initiative introduces alternative and experiential learning while expanding access to theatre productions in Namibia. It aims to strengthen learners’ appreciation for the arts and nurture cultural engagement.

The production is free for learners, and no tickets are being sold. Schools across the Khomas Region are invited to attend. Group bookings are encouraged and must be confirmed by 26 March 2026.
