NTN calls for auditions for stage actors.
The National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) invites all aspiring and professional stage actors to audition for the upcoming production ‘Bang Bang’, written by Chris Djuma (RSA) and with direction by local theatre maker Veronique Kuchekana-Chirau.
As a prescribed text for secondary school Grade 8 learners studying English as a second language, ‘Bang Bang’ is a short, hard-hitting play set in a neighbourhood marked by poverty, crime, and political violence. The story centres on children who play games involving toy guns, mimicking the violent world they see around them. What begins as innocent play gradually reveals how violence has been normalised in their daily lives.
As the children reenact shootings, robberies, and power struggles, the boundary between play and reality becomes blurred. Their language, behaviour, and understanding of power are shaped by the unhealthy society they live in. The play emphasises how casually violence is absorbed and reproduced by the young, and how it continues across households and generations.
The play is minimal in structure but heavy in implication, using children’s voices to expose the psychological and social damage caused by a violent society.
Bang Bang is a South African contemporary theatre work that is explored in drama curricula and performances dealing with youth and violence. The production will be staged from 8-10 April 2026 in the National Theatre of Namibia’s auditorium for learners. Schools across the Khomas region will be invited to experience this important text brought to life on stage.
Selected actors will be contracted and remunerated accordingly. The production seeks adult actors aged 18+ only. Actors must come prepared with a three-minute presentation on their desired character. Script extracts can be found at the link below.

How to Audition
- Review the character list and select relevant script pages here
- Prepare and memorise the script extract for your chosen character.
- During your audition, you will perform the memorised extract. A co-reader will be present to assist with dialogue lines.
