 ‘Siener in die Suburbs’ premiered in 1971 and went on to become a smash hit. ‘Siener in die Suburbs’ tells the story of a family and the consequences of unresolved events that occurred in the past. Ma is the backbone of her family, as Pa is still missing, presumed dead from the war. Her daughter Tiemie, yearns to escape the suburbs. However, she falls pregnant – possibly by the local gangster, Jakes. Tjokkie, her brother, has the gift of prophecy, and is forced to ‘see the future’ by other opportunistic characters for their own gain – with tragic results.
