The choir was founded in June 2005 by Evy George and currently consists of

36 adult members from different language and ethnic groups. Some of the members of the choir previously sang in Cantare Audire, UNAM Choir, Polytechnic Choir, National Youth Choir, Coastal Youth Choir, Stellenbosch University Choir and the World Youth Choir. The repertoire consists of traditional and religious music from Namibia, Nigeria, Kenia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and West Africa, performed mostly a cappella and supplemented with dance, movement and percussion instruments. The songs portray culture in a vibrant manner.

Maranatha Singers, under the co-conductorship for this programme, of the brilliant Evy George and dynamic Marcellinus Swartbooi ( Marcellinus is a highly talented young Namibian composer whose compositions make out the bulk of the repertoire for the 27 June concert) count under the cream of Namibian choral and musical talent.
