Artbeat School Holiday Theatre Workshop

The Artbeat Schools Holiday Programme activities was introduced for the first time as a pilot project during the May (2009) holidays from 28 April to 20 May.

The programme’s main objective is to introduce the youth to the theatre through workshops in three main areas: dance, drama and poetry.  In addition to the above the project promotes the concept “Education Theatre”, contributing to Namibia’s education.  Thus the project extends the classroom teaching and learning to that of the theatre for lifelong learning.

The programme Objectives:

• To popularize and promote theatre in general
• To introduce  children between the ages of 8-18 to Theatre and its benefits as an extended education resource
• To keep children away from anti-social and harmful influences(alcohol abuse..) during the holidays.
• Skills and Knowledge Development: To offer a three week holiday workshop program in Dance, Poetry and Drama during the period 29 April to 25 May 2009.
• To create a pool of future paying audiences for the theatre
• To explore the magic of the theatre for social transformation
• To discover new talent for the theatre
• To keep the children away from negative and harmful activities (such as alcohol and drug abuse)
