Media Release 26 April 2011     LAST BAND STANDING    MAY – JUNE 2011   The National Theatre of Namibia plays a pivotal role in the promotion, development and safeguarding of Performing Arts in Namibia.   The Local Bandstand was a very popular program on the NBC television, for ‘Live Band’ performances, during the late nineties. The NTN is now bringing it to the Theatre Stage with the assistance from some strategic partners.   This initiative is amongst others to recognise and celebrate the essence and the power of Live Music Performance:   ·         To provide the target audience, who increasingly feels marginalised with quality entertainment: ·         To provide a platform for artist (musicians) to market their music and improve their livelihoods. ·         At the same time, the event will present a rare opportunity for artsits to share a common space and network with fellow musicians to compete and celebrate for the love of music. ·         The event will further enhance the social and market positioning of the participating stakeholders and partners.   This pilot production will give 16 bands the opportunity to play off against each other.
